A DAY ON... NOT A DAY OFFJanuary 21, 2008 Academy In Manayunk Students Skip Their "Day Off" And Choose a "Day On" to Help Children In Need for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. In the weeks leading up to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, AIM families have been donating school supplies for children in need and AIM students have been learning about Dr. Martin Luther King's message and the efforts of everyday people that changed history. From 10:45-11:45 AM on MLK Day of Service, the AIM auditorium came alive with 1960's banners and music prepared by the students. Each AIM student received the name and information about a child in need (identified by the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center) and got to "shop" to fill a backpack with school supplies that will help their student succeed in school. AIM students included notes and drawings to the children and shared what they have learned about Dr. King's work. The back packs were delivered to the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center by AIM middle school students for distribution.
