Pennsylvania Secretary of Education to Visit AIM Academy September 20

Pedro A. Rivera to See AIM's Educational Model on September 20

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – AIM Academy, a 1-12 grade college-preparatory school, will welcome Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera to its Conshohocken campus on Tuesday, September 20. Rivera will spend the afternoon learning more about AIM's educational model, which focuses on developing literacy skills for children with diagnosed learning disabilities.

Rivera, a Philadelphia native, was superintendent of The School District of Lancaster prior to becoming Secretary of Education and spent 13 years in the School District of Philadelphia. His efforts to transform urban education with innovative teaching tools have been recognized throughout his career.

As Secretary of Education, Rivera has talked about needing to focus on early literacy skills for Pennsylvania students and finding ways to evaluate how schools prepare students for higher education and a career.

AIM Academy Executive Director Pat Roberts is looking forward to introducing Rivera to AIM's research-based, integrative curriculum which focuses on providing students the skills and strategies needed to overcome challenges while also developing their strengths and talents.

"The impact of teaching literacy all day in multisensorial and experiential classrooms leads to successful students who by high school are confident advocates for themselves and are more than ready to step into their future education and careers," Roberts said. "I am eager to have Secretary Rivera meet our students and learn more about the ways the AIM Institute for Learning & Research provides educators throughout Pennsylvania with specialized literacy training and access to research experts sharing new best practices for the classroom."
