AIM Institute Launches Groundbreaking Statewide Partnership with New Mexico to Train Secondary Teachers in Literacy

The AIM Institute for Learning & Research is proud to announce a multi-year partnership with the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) to deliver required, evidence-based literacy training to all 6th–12th grade English language arts, English language development, and special education teachers across the state. This initiative will utilize AIM’s Pathways to Proficient Reading: Secondary (PPR:S) course and represents one of the first known efforts in the U.S. to include high school teachers in legislated literacy professional development. The training will reach more than 1,000 teachers in year one.

AIM Announces Early Reading Success Schools to Support 1,000+ K-1 Learners

The AIM Institute for Learning & Research is proud to announce the selection of 10 schools for our new AIM Early Reading Success Schools initiative. This fully-funded, yearlong demonstration project is designed to transform early literacy instruction and ensure that more than 1,000 children in more than 60 classrooms across the country are reading at grade level by the end of the school year.

Supported with a $750,000 donation by the Raphael Family Foundation, the initiative provides AIM-led professional learning, coaching, and implementation support per school to help participating teams accelerate reading outcomes and build sustainable systems for early literacy success. The participating schools represent a diverse cross-section of the country,  including rural communities and major cities, and span public, private, and charter school settings.

AIM Partners with Nebraska DOE for Summer Coaching and Leader Training

AIM Institute for Learning & Research is excited to partner with the Nebraska Department of Education to further literacy and reading improvement efforts through HEROES (Helping to Elevate Reading Outcomes for Every Student) Training. This summer training opportunity, which will take place in Kearney in July, focuses on the art of literacy coaching and is designed to equip educators and leaders with evidence-based practices aligned with the Science of Reading.

AIM Institute's Deborah Lynam Joins Dyslexia Advocates in DC

AIM Institute for Learning & Research's Director of Partnerships and Engagement Deborah Lynam just returned from three days in Washington DC with dyslexia advocates from 17 states as part of the 5th annual Dyslexia Hill Day organized by Decoding Dyslexia parents. This three day gathering of families, professionals and policy-makers on Capitol Hill focused on discussing current trends and upcoming federal legislative efforts impacting individuals with dyslexia.

Continuing Education Award for AIM Speech and Language Director

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month so it's fitting that we congratulate Erin DeVault, our Director of Speech and Language, on her recent award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Erin was recently granted an Award for Continuing Education (ACE) for her rigorous commitment continuing education in her field. ACE awards are provided to Speech-Language Pathologists who complete 7 ASHA continuing education units over a three-year period.

AIM Academy Science Teacher Named Philadelphia Phillies Teacher All Star
AIM Academy Middle School Science Teacher Chrissy Mellon has been selected by the Philadelphia Phillies as one of their Top 10 Teacher All Stars for 2017. Mellon, who was nominated by an AIM parent, will be honored along with nine other Teacher All Stars in a pre-game ceremony prior to the Friday, May 5 Teacher Appreciation Night game. The nomination letter written by the parent of one of Mellon's current students highlights the focus and education the teacher herself undertook to find the best way to connect with a child with a specific hurdle that impeded being able to learn: "Chrissy Mellon embodies AIM Academy's vision - innovative teaching driven by fearless dedication in the teacher."
